    GeoWel Research has analysed trade, remittances, foreign investment and official development assistance. We have tried to assess the way in which economic inter-dependencies in the broader Caucasus region feed into security and insecurity.

    This research project was intended to provide an overview of food security in the South Caucasus and also to provide an analysis of the capacity of government, NGOs and the media to engage in public discussions on food security issues.

    World Vision Georgia commissioned the research summarized in this report to gain a clearer picture of the situation facing children with disabilities in the communities where a new EU-financed project of theirs will work.

    Asian Development Bank Private Sector Assessment (2013)

    As part of the development of their new Country Partnership Strategy, Dr Welton provided ADB with an overview of the Georgian economy and private sector environment. This was particularly focus on the situation up until the change of government in 2012.

    Assessment of the Heavy Industry Sector for Rustavi Steel (2013)

    In order to help Rustavi steel draw attention to the importance of the heavy industry sector in Georgia, GeoWel Research undertook a macroeconomic review of the sector. It also involved a consideration of industrial policy and a brief consideration of the policies which the Georgian government could deploy to help the sector if they wished.

    Comparative Analysis of the Agricultural Sector in the South Caucasus (2013)

    Dr George Welton, as lead researcher and writer, working with research teams in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan produced a comparative analysis of the agricultural sector in the three countries for UNDP, financed by SDC.

    Research Training of Shida Kartli Municipal Government (2011-2012)

    In 2011 and 2012 GeoWel Research undertook a research training project to try and enhance the in-house capacities of four municipalities of Shida Kartli and the Governor’s office to collect and analyze data for economic development planning on local and regional level.

    Research Capacity Development with the Georgian Ministry of Economy (2011-2012)

    GeoWel Research, supported by GIZ, recently completed a research and analysis capacity building program with the Georgian Ministry of Economic and Sustainable Development.

    Food Security in the Caucasus, Russia, Ukraine and Tajikistan (2011)

    The purpose of this project was to provide Oxfam a comparative briefing note on the five FSU countries where Oxfam continues to operate; Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia and Tajikistan.

    Access to Justice in Central Asia (2011)

    The research was conducted in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from September 2010. The work was conducted with the Caucasus Research Resource Centers in Georgia and MVector in Central Asia as part of the project planning for a large Finnish Government financed Access to Justice Project.
